Dong, Department of Engineering, University of Leicester, Leicester, UK In the current study, a 260 mm × 300 mm bloom mould was investigated, on which a method combining finite element and finite volume methods was applied to study the impacts of electromagnetic stirring on molten steel flow and heat transfer, and then t he solidification structure of steel was tested. The obtained simulation results pertaining to magnetic fields were consistent with the onsite measured data. For the 260 mm × 300 mm bloom continuous casting of bearing steel, the appropriate value of current intensity of electromagnetic stirring was found to be 300 A.

Abstract: The aims of this research were to investigate the effects of semisolid metal (SSM) processing parameters (i.e., shear rates –times – temperatures combinations) on the primary solidification products and isothermal holding duration, subsequent to cessation of stirring on the secondary solidification of Al-Si (A356) alloy. The dendrite fragmentation was found to be the governing m...
متن کاملSolidification and thermal performance analysis of the low carbon steel during the continuous casting process
The present paper evaluates the effect of the nozzle characteristics on the heat transfer and phase change of the low carbon steel during the continuous casting process. A three-dimensional energy equation and a solidification model are used to drive the governing equation of the phase change and temperature distribution. A linear relation is obtained to predict the temperature-dependent of the...
متن کاملEffects of EMS Induced Flow on Solidification and Solute Transport in Bloom Mold
The flow, temperature, solidification, and solute concentration field in a continuous casting bloom mold were solved simultaneously by a multiphysics numerical model by considering the effect of in-mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS). The mold metallurgical differences between cases with and without EMS are discussed first, and then the solute transport model verified. Moreover, the effects o...
